Hej, Kevin! Kommer din nästa post på svenska? Having left marine biology, I miss it, and read you blog regularly to ease the pain ;-)

Oh, and I have fond memories of Happy Hour at Duke Marine Lab (only once, though), so I hope to get around to reading your Darwin Day talk soon!

  • Oh! When were you at Duke Marine Lab? Sad to see a marine biologist leave the field :( I’ve often thought of it too, but somehow the low pay keeps me here…

    Hej då

I interviewed for grad school at Duke Marine Lab (and NC State) way back in ‘95. I ended up accepting a grant in Norway though, going to the US on 1 yr exchange instead. Being really interested in behavioural stuff, and firmly rooted in marine biology back home, I grasped a change to go to University of Ketucky, where they were doing some interesting predator-prey stuff.

Duke seemed VERY tempting, though, science-wise, climate-wise and people were extremely welcoming. I was taken to a folk concert and a Mardi Gras Party with a pretty good local Cajun band. On the third day I was there, people on main street and in stores in Beaufort recognized me and stopped to chat :-) Have to admit I LOVED that!
